Questions owners ask
What does an audit involve in the UAE?
An audit examines financial statements and the records that support them, within a scope agreed at the start. The procedures depend on the purpose of the engagement. Not every UAE company is required to have an audit. The obligation depends on legal form, licensing authority, free zone rules and any contractual requirement.
Does my UAE business need bookkeeping?
If the business invoices customers, pays suppliers or is registered for VAT or Corporate Tax, it needs records that explain those transactions. Monthly bookkeeping is the practical way to keep the bank, the sales and the tax returns aligned.
What is UAE Corporate Tax?
Corporate Tax is a federal tax on taxable income under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022, administered by the Federal Tax Authority. For a standard taxable person the rate is 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above that. It is not a tax on revenue. Other treatments can apply, including for qualifying free zone income where the conditions are met.
When does a business need VAT registration?
A UAE-resident business must register if taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to exceed that amount in the next 30 days. Voluntary registration can be available above AED 187,500. Non-resident businesses follow different rules. The Federal Tax Authority’s registration page is the reference, and the result depends on the supplies you make.
How can a tax consultant help my business?
A tax consultant identifies which obligations apply, what the filing needs from the accounts, and where the records are not yet good enough. Score Plus Auditing L.L.C covers Corporate Tax and VAT consultancy for UAE SMEs. A first conversation does not produce a tax figure before the facts are reviewed.
What accounting records should a UAE business maintain?
Sales and purchase invoices, bank statements, payment support and ledgers that tie them together. VAT-registered businesses also need the tax invoices behind each return. Corporate Tax needs accounts that can be adjusted to taxable income. Keep records for the period required by applicable UAE law and the Federal Tax Authority.
